Designing with Disney

Disney Publishing approached us to create an entirely new reading experience for the iPad. Toy Story: Storybook Deluxe was a pioneer in its space, and was a launching pad for dozens of Storybook Deluxe apps. Since its release we’ve evolved that one app into a successful platform for celebrated titles such as Frozen, Brave, Tangled, and more.

Respect for the Brand

The Storybook Deluxe platform offers a fluid, parallax-based scrolling interface. Each title features at least one unique game that brings a plot point to life, a “record your own narration” feature, word highlighting, embedded animations, and activities like puzzles and coloring. Frozen was particularly unique because it tells the tale from two perspectives at once with a custom interface.

Disney then trusted us to create free play toys under the “Disney Princess” banner. Charmed Adventures, Palace Pets, and Royal Celebrations offered mobile experiences that celebrated the strength and resilience of the Disney princesses, and we were thrilled to continue our longstanding partnership.

Developing With Unity

Using the Unity game engine to build immersive worlds for Charmed Adventures, we created scrollable 2D kingdoms for children to explore freely (and play mini-games) as the princess of their choice.

We developed Palace Pets with Disney Consumer Products and Disney Publishing Worldwide to support their line of Palace Pets toys. Interactive and story-driven, Palace Pets was a terrific success, reaching #1 in the Entertainment category. Royal Celebrations is an open-ended play experience that allows young users to create parties and play games with their favorite Disney princesses.

The app uses image recognition software to unlock premium content by scanning a special key printed on the product packaging of Disney’s Royal Celebrations dolls.
